Dear Pastors and Members of LCMS, Greetings to you on the eve of Pentecost. May the Holy Spirit continue to reign in our lives and unite the Church. Most of us would have been following the latest developments in Myanmar through the various local and international media. In the aftermath of the cyclone disaster, tens of thousands have been killed and over a million have been displaced. The LCMS continue to urge all the congregations to uphold the people of Myanmar with your prayers and financial support. Donations can be made to the LCMS Office, through the 'Myanmar Relief Fund.' In the midst of the immeasurable suffering happening in Yangon, I bring to you a piece of good news from Myanmar Lutheran Church (MLC), a church planted by the LCMS exactly 10 years ago. The senior pastor of the church, Rev. Andrew Manlone has informed us that all his family members, evangelists, and children of the orphanage are safe. Though the roof of the church building has been partially destroyed, we give praise to God that none of the pastors and members have been injured. Rev. Andrew also informed us that the church members have been going to the neighboring community to extend assistance to those in need. By doing so, the members hope that the love of God would be felt in a tangible way by those who are grieving for the loss of lives and properties. The LCMS has originally planned to send a team to Myanmar Lutheran Church to join in their 10th Anniversary celebrations in June. Due to the present difficulties in Yangon, we have decided to cancel the celebratory event. Instead, we wish to raise some funds to support the relief work carried out by the members of MLC and/or other relief agencies. Please continue to support the people of Myanmar.
